Tirtha Dasgupta,

Tirtha Dasgupta, born in Shillong, continued his education in Calcutta. At an early age developed interest in Photography. Initially a freelancer, he joined as Scientific Photographer in the Forensic Science Laboratory, Calcutta. He switched over to industrial and mining photography in the Hindustan Copper Limited. Returned to scientific photography in 1985 when he joined IARI as Photo Officer. He taught Photography, Photojournalism, Visual Graphic Communication to M.Sc. and PhD. scholars of IARI. Recently in the year 2017 he has superannuated from the post of Photo Officer In-Charge, Central Photo Lab of IARI, New Delhi. He is a Scientific Photographer and Teacher with a liking for Pictorial Photography. He is akin to creating surrealistic images through the medium of photography.

His works has been exhibited in National and International Salons over 27 countries and won him more than 800 Acceptances, Awards & Certificates of Merit. He has also been awarded by the Sahitya Kala Parishad twice in 1989 and 1992. He has earned the LRPS, UK in 1982, the LIIPC in 1987, and the AIIPC in 1990. In the year 2002 the FIP conferred him the Fellowship FFIP. In 2010 he has been conferred with the ARPS, UK and AFIAP. In the year 2011 his continued service to photography has been dually acknowledged by the Photographic Society of America by conferring on him the APSA. It was in 2012 he earned the EFIAP. In 2015 he has been conferred the FBPS, Fellow of the Bangladesh Photographic Society. During 2016 and 2017 he has been conferred with Hon. FSoF, Fellow School of Fototechnik, Hon.FSAP, Felow Sigma Art Photography, Hon.FPSNJ, Fellow Photographic Society of New Jersey, USA, Hon.PESGSPC, Pascal English School Greek School Photography Club, Cyprus, Hon.FICS, Fellow Image Colleague Society, USA, AISF, Artiste Image Sans Frontiere, France, Hon.EFMPA, Excellence Federation Multi-Cultural Photographic Art, GPA.PESGSPC, the Grand Progress Award of PESGSPC.

Being keen to serve the cause of photography he has volunteered his service as Hon.Jt.Secy, Chairman Salon Recog. Div. Chairman Members’ Meetings of IIPC, and he was the first Chairman of the Digital Imaging Div. of IIPC. Served in Organising Committees of Workshops, Seminars, Salons. He served as Jury in Contests & Salons. His academic interest reflects form the presentations he has made in Workshops, Seminars and Conferences.  He is credited with invitation Lectures. He has also published many articles on photography. He had been a regular contributor in the “Let’s Go” travel magazine and on the advisory panel for the publication. He is the founder and Hon. Course Director of School of Fototechnik, New Delhi. He is a guest lecturer at the National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, Govt. of India, NIFT, Govt. of India, SOC, New Delhi, IILM, New Delhi, NMI, Min of Culture, Govt of India, New Delhi, IIMC and Photo Division, Min of I & B, Govt of India, New Delhi, IILM School of Design, Gurgaon,  Academy of Visual Media, New Delhi, FMCC, New Delhi, Guru Govind Singh College of Commerce, New Delhi, NRLC, Lucknow, Govt of India, School of Professional Studies, University of Allahabad, Punjabi University, Patiala, CCRT, New Delhi. He has been on the recruitment board of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission. He teaches Forensic Photography to the M.Sc. students of the Punjabi University, Insperia Knowledge Campus, Siliguri. He is also a paper setter and examiner of photography at the university level. Now, he actively works for propagating and creating awareness of photographic applications.

To mark the completion of two decades of the School of Fototechnik he has taken the initiative of spreading photography to different part of the country in 2018. Today there are three centres of the institute at Siliguri, Imphal and Coochbehar apart from the headquarters in New Delhi.

Today many of his students are very well established in the field of photography and they all admire him and seek his blessing.

He is a volunteer of the Photographic Society of America in the capacity of Country Membership Director and was the first Country Liaison Officer for India.
